Director of Instruction
Steve comes armed with a wealth of knowledge that one could only garner through vast teaching experience in which he boasts 22 passion filled years, all in which have been dedicated to golfers in the Belleville, Quinte West and surrounding areas.
With his ability to mesh with the student’s personalities, needs and individual specific goals, it’s obvious why Steve is one of the area’s premier choices.
As Steve aspired to play professionally, he sought World Class Instruction from the renown David Leadbetter (Els, Norman, Faldo, Price, Ko, Wie etc.) at his Golf Academy in Lake Nona, Florida. While his time spent being taught didn’t result in a long professional playing career, it did prove extremely valuable resulting in inspiration, a true love for teaching and the ever-important art of conveying a message.
“Being born and raised in Quinte West, I’ve always felt connected and with a conscious allegiance to the golfers in this area. Finding a teacher, you trust, who is bought in and is loyally dedicated to your game is vital to the golfer’s progression. I’ve taken great pride in being able to offer the area’s golfer stability so they can rest in the knowledge I’ll be in their corner every step of the way during their golfing journey. I’m extremely excited and look forward to servicing the Trillium Wood membership as well as inviting my loyal students to my new home at Trillium Wood. Let’s make 2021 your best year yet!”
After working on the grounds crew at Sutton Creek Golf Course in Essex, Ontario Ian grew to love the game of golf. He decided on a career in the golf industry and attended Camosun College from 2004-2006 in the Professional Golf Management Program. His placement at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club lead to attaining a vast knowledge of David Leadbetter swing techniques at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Whistler, B.C.
He turned professional with the PGA of Canada in 2009. Once Ian secured his CPGA card he spent four years as an apprentice under Canadian Hall of Fame golfer Cathy Sherk at Black Bear Ridge Golf Course where he gained a wealth of knowledge from the legendary golfer.
We are pleased to welcome Ian back for his seventh season as Head Teaching Professional at Trillium Wood this upcoming 2021. Ian and has been a staple in the Trillium Wood community and has been vital to the growth of the game at Trillium Wood.
“My goal when I joined the Trillium Wood team was to help grow the game of golf. As I have seen a massive increase in the demand for lessons, the game is in a great spot to grow even more. I am happy we have decided to bring in another experienced instructor to create Trillium as the main hub for high quality golf instruction in the area. I look forward to continue to grow the Golf Academy at Trillium Wood during the 2021 season!”
